2 x tables to solve 4 x table problems

Today in maths we are learning to do harder maths problems using place value . Here is some of what we've been doing :

17 x 5 =   10 x 5 = 50  plus 7 x 5 = 35 50 + 35 = 85

In this problem I used the ten from the seventeen and the five first . I multiplied them together and got fifty . Then I took the  seven from the seventeen and the five , and multiplied them together , again to get thirty five . Then I added my fifty and my  thirty five together to get eighty five .

I found this strategy quite easy and I will use it again.
